Sport is an integral and highly valued part of life at James Ruse Agricultural High School. Research shows that sport and physical activity improves academic outcomes, cognitive function, self-esteem and social skills and is likely to provide young people with the optimum physiological and psychological conditions for maximising learning.

We are committed to promoting a holistic approach to lifelong physical activity and wellbeing, providing a range of opportunities for students to take part in both recreational and competitive environments.

Whole school carnivals are held for Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming where students are encouraged to participate in as many events as possible, competing for their House and fostering a sense of community and connectedness.

Students in Years 7 and 8 have timetabled Integrated Sport lessons to assist in the development of their fitness, fundamental and specialised movement skills, and to prepare them for grade competitions in subsequent years.

Those in Years 9 to 11 take part in weekly recreational or grade sport on Wednesday afternoons. Year 12 students still have the opportunity to participate and are strongly encouraged to do so.
