Angus Stud

Since 1990, James Ruse Agricultural High School has been a continuous member of Angus Australia, receiving recognition in 2015 for 25 years of membership. The school continues to breed purebred Angus stud cattle, producing quality breeding heifers and steers for the local market. The herd descends from the original genetics used to establish the first JR herd.

In 2018, the school purchased a new bull, Wongalea Mozart, whose first calves were born in November 2019. The cattle enterprise supports the teaching of the Year 9 Beef Cattle topic, the HSC Beef Product Study and large animal handling skills for students pursuing veterinary studies.

Steers are sold to local schools for preparation and exhibition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. In 2021, JR Quasi was awarded a carcass medal in the Hoof and Hook competition.

The school's artificial breeding program, first introduced to the JR Angus stud in 2000 by former teacher and Farm Manager Gail Roberts, resumed in 2023, continuing the school's commitment to cattle breeding and agricultural education.
