What we offer

Canteen at Ruse

The James Ruse Canteen contributes to the life of the school by offering a menu which provides a large and varied range of food and drink options which comply with the requirements of the NSW Government’s Healthy Canteen guidelines.

These obligations include providing more healthy food and drink options – to make the healthy choice an easy one for students (visit Healthy school canteens to learn more).

The Canteen at Ruse is open every school day and is run by an external professional catering company which employs its own staff who liaise closely with the school.

Each morning, from 7:30am the canteen offers several hot and cold breakfast options for students including bacon and egg rolls, fruit and yoghurt. Some are made to order by request.

At recess and lunch there are both hot and cold selections available. The dishes offered change regularly but any item which is on the extensive menu can be ordered by students before school. Lunch orders are strongly encouraged and are a good option for those students who have lunchtime co-curricular commitments as orders can be collected very quickly from the canteen at the start of lunch.

The daily offerings at the Ruse canteen represent many different cuisines with Asian, Middle Eastern, Japanese, Italian and Mediterranean dishes regularly served.

An array of salads, wraps, sandwiches (plain or toasted), sushi rolls (summer only), fruit salads and hot meals are available each day. As well, the Ruse canteen provides refreshing cold drinks including low fat flavoured milks, no sugar soft drinks, flavoured mineral waters and juice. Vegetarian and vegan food options are also available.

The canteen staff also regularly organise ‘special menu’ days which are advertised in the school newsletter and are always popular with students and staff.

Canteen hours: 7:30am – 2:05pm Monday - Friday

Uniforms

When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community.

Students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as members of our local community helped develop our school uniform to make sure it:

  • meets the requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation

  • includes items that are affordable, comfortable and made from easy-care and easy-wear fabrics

  • is appropriate for the full range of school activities

  • is suitable for all body shapes.

JRAHS operates a School Uniform Shop, upstairs in Barrengarry House. Our Uniform Shop is open every Tuesday and Wednesday in school terms between 8am and 2pm
