All classes from Year 7 to 10 (Preliminary Course) engage in growing their own produce throughout the year. Brassica Crops dominate the winter months and potatoes are popular during Semester 2. A commercial crop of hybrid sweetcorn is also grown over the Christmas break for Year 9 to study commercial corn production.
A variety of pest and disease control methods are adopted including the use Dipel, a biological pest control for Cabbage White Butterfly and the use of crop rotation.
Plots are rested and rotated to allow the build up of organic matter and nutrients and improvement of soil structure. Green Manure Crops are also grown and stripped grazed by the cattle, before being ploughed into the soil before they flower.
